Mira Mesa 10-7-23 Contractor: Down to Earth dtelandscape.com
Here is what I saw Monday 10-7-23 at Mira Mesa.
Almost all of the NEW greens have health issues. They are sick. Has Down to Earth identified the cause of these health issues? Has any professional testing been completed? Does Down to Earth have an action plan in place to correct these issues? Are you in agreement with their assessment and action plan? How long will it take to correct the health of the greens?
The traps were not groomed. There is an odd pattern of lines in this trap.
The contractor has fallen behind in their edging.
It looks like this Goose Grass has been sprayed and is in the process of dying.
Almost all of the greens have "Health" issues. You can see that sod was replaced. All of the white spots in the green square are baby Goose Grass plants. You can also see that more of the green is dying next to the replacement patch.
It has only been a year since the renovation.
3rd hole waste area near the green that has lots of weeds that need to be sprayed.
An unhealthy area of the 3rd green.
The renovation included landscape enhancements near the 4th tee box.
Weeds are taking over.
There are two different weeds in this picture as well as the ground cover encroaching on the right side.
Eliminate the compaction, check the PH, add some organic material, fertilize and water to get the grass to grow. Or do nothing and this is what you get.
All of the roughed up edges of this spicket hold dirt and bacteria.
This area is just off the 4th green. Lots of weeds and invasive grass that need to be sprayed. You also see that the Pine straw is gone.
These lovely yellow flowers are on a vine located next to the cart path by the 5th green.
The plant is called Dairymple Vigna. And they don't belong there.
The 5th green has a large area that is in bad shape.
Down to Earth may set a record in the shortest amount of time between renovation and green replacement.
The landscaping behind the 5th green is loaded with weeds.
Here the weeds are so large that they are smothering the good plants.
Goose Grass by the 5th green.
Weeds and debris by the 6th tee box.
This vine is called Bitter Gourd.
A few of the traps have grass runners that need to be removed.
Part of the 6th green is Sick.
This part of the 7th fairway is dead.
This part of the 7th green is Sick.
There was a mower bearing issue on the 8th green. The good news is they caught it before messing up another green.
There is a fairly large area of the 8th green with these small dots. It looks like a granular chemical was broadcast and is burning the grass, but that is speculation as I really don't know what is going on here.
This picture shows a stump near the forward tees on the 9th hole. It is one of three Crape Myrtles trees that were planted in the landscaping area.
The contract states that the Contractor shall replace the dead tree at their expense.
So why hasn't the tree been replaced ?
The following comes from the Scope of Work which is part of the RFP #22P-025 which is incorporated into the Contract for Landscape Maintenance that includes Mira Mesa Executive Golf Course. It is under "Replacement of Plants to Maintain Design Intent".
Any tree, palm, shrub, or groundcover plantings which die, or which are damaged or decline to the extent of affecting the overall appearance of the project, shall be replaced promptly with the same species in a size which reasonably matches the plant it is replacing, in order to preserve the design intent and appearance of the landscaping.
The Supplier/Contractor shall be responsible for the full cost of such replacements where required due to incorrect maintenance or to inadequate maintenance.
The 9th green has some sick areas.
Just a reminder, if you would like to see a higher quality version of any of these pictures just visit executivegolfmaintenance.blogspot.com.
That is it from Mira Mesa.
