Pimlico 6-5-23 Contractor: Down to Earth dtelandscape.com
Hello Mitch,
Here is what I saw Monday 6-5-23 at Pimlico.
The bunkers were groomed. But all of the surrounding turf is nutrient starved. There are a few grass runners in the bunkers that need to be edged out.
I did see you working at a distance over on the first green of Churchill as I was leaving. Hopefully you can get the new grass and sprigs planted soon so you don't miss the growing season like you did at Mira Mesa.
Hole 1
Tee box shot of goose grass and another weed that I do not know the name of.
The tee boxes are a mix bag on the course. All are better than my last visit where they were horrible. The grass is growing and filling in. The mixed bag is that some tee boxes have been fertilized and others not. The 5th hole has 4 tee boxes and the three that are being used have been fertilized and are responding well. The fourth has not been fertilized and is in rough shape. Why is that ?
Lack of fertilization is why these executive golf course look like cow pastures.
If you maintained them properly (get the contractors to do what they are being paid to do) you would not have to renovate them so often.
There are a lot of issues still with cutting cups. Dalton told me in February of 2022 that he had addressed the issue of poor cup cutting by sending the contractors a letter. Well that letter didn't work.
I suggested to you and Mr. Blocker earlier this year that you require your contractors to upgrade and standardize their equipment along with using video training for their staff. I am guessing that you have not done this.
Their is a Youtube video that could be used for free "The satisfying cup-cutting process at the TCP Sawgrass' 17 Hole" They are using a Shole Hole Cutter. It sure looks like they know what they are doing.
Hole 2
This tee box needs some fertilizer and weed killer.
Goose grass is all over this green. Down to Earth killed all of the weeds on the greens of De La Vista within 30 days when someone asked them to do it.
Why hasn't someone asked Down to Earth to do it here?
Hole 3
Hole 5
So here is a picture of the tee box that was not fertilized. You can see it is nutrient starved.
The next picture is the forward tee and you can see the difference.
Both the Black and Gold tee boxes look like this.
Why can't all of the tee boxes look like this ???
Hole 6
This picture shows that they have sprayed and killed the grass and weeds in this landscape area. Good job.....keep it up.
A nice picture of a weed called lemon leaf in the back tee box.
