Silver Lake 9-25-23 Contractor: Down to Earth dtelandscape.com
Hello Mitch,
This is what I saw golfing at Silver Lake Monday 9-25-23.
This is the practice green.
You can see the mower has a bad bearing and is chopping up the green. This operator chopped up all 9 greens in addition to the practice green.
Why all of the greens?
Maybe they are mowing in the dark of the morning and cannot see what they are doing.
This picture shows where they have sprayed weeds in the landscape area. It is a good start. They need to do more of it as you will see in a later picture.
Cup cutting is an issue. You might see 20 old cups on a green.
It is interesting that Down to Earth can't be consistent from course to course. There is a huge difference in the qualifications and abilities of the Superintendents. The Regional Superintendent is a weak link in that they cannot produce consistency through training and directing the individual superintendents.
The tee boxes have been fertilized and are filling in.
There is still a weed issue with the tee boxes.
This dollar weed has been on this tee box for ever.
Why don't they spray it ?
This is an interesting collection of weeds, mostly Goose Grass.
There is a 7 or 8 inch dead circle at the bottom of the picture. One Goose Grass plant killed the bermudagrass. Then when you kill the Goose Grass you end up with a bare spot. All the more reason to kill the Goose Grass when it is small.
You can see where they sprayed (brown colored) other Goose Grass and it is dying. And you can see where they missed some as they are still green.
Here is a Goose Grass plant that I had to loosen the ground with a garden fork so that I could pull the roots out with the plant. This plant came out of the newly renovated Mira Mesa golf course grass behind my house.
This tee box on the third hole is in horrible shape.
Here is a landscape area off of the third green that needs spraying.
Note. Just off of the 4th tee box there is a tree on the golf course property that the home owner had trimmed a lot of large branched off. The cut up logs are stacked around the base of the tree. I am guessing that they would like you to remove the logs for them.
This picture is from January 7th when I first brought this to your attention. It caught my attention because there are ropes and ladders up in the trees and no one around.
Here is a Health Department Violation.
The spicket has broken edges that harbor bacteria.
The spicket is covered with dirt and bacteria.
I don't think the maintenance facility even has an approved wash sink large enough to clean and sanitize the coolers.
I would say this employee couldn't get things straight.
A number of the greens had a similar gouge in the outer edge of the green.
This is an area in front of the 6th green. It looks like they applied organic matter to help it grow in.
9th tee box
The tee box is full of a weed called Prostrate Sandmat. Normally it grows flat to the ground. I pulled it's arms up to show you how big it really is.
